Greece

Quick Athens and Mykonos trip

In 12 days, my friends and I traveled to Greece, Italy, Egypt, and London. This is the snippet of Greece.

Day 1: Travel + Athens Day

We only had one day in Athens, and honestly it was perfect.

  • We started eating at a small shop near our Airbnb. Our Airbnb was perfect– it had gorgeous views of the Temple of Zeus and was a close walk from all the main tourist attractions in Athens.

  • We saw the Acropolis, Parthenon, Areopagus, national garden, and just walked around Athens until we stumbled upon a coffee shop (which had incredible coffee).

  • For dinner, we went to Street Souvlaki– amazing vegetarian options and was so yummy!

  • We were super tired and jetlagged, so we called it relatively early.

Day 2: Short Greece day + travel to Egypt

  • We had an early morning and breakfast at God’s Restaurant before we went to the airport to travel to Cairo

Day 3-7: Egypt, Italy

Day 9: Mykonos

  • We checked into our stunning, luxurious Airbnb. It had incredible views with a private pool + you can request a driver to help get to different parts of town.

  • We ate at Apaggio Mykonos, which had fine vegetarian options, but the dessert was to die for.

Day 10: Mykonos

  • We rented ATVs and drove around Mykonos for a few hours and went to 37°27'00.9"N 25°19'51.4"E view point.

  • We spent the rest of the day exploring Old Town Mykonos, Matoyianni Street, Panagia Church

  • We wanted to go out at Paradise beach club, but it was so dead. There were maybe 4 other people there.

Day 11: Mykonos

  • The ATVs we rented were for 24-hours, so we woke up early and rode them around sunrise and caught the most gorgeous views.

  • Relax + order in + watch a movie

Day 12: Travel to Athens

  • We had booked an early morning boat to Athens before our flight, but we found out the morning that our boat got canceled because of the weather. This was an absolute shit show. Everyone was rushing to the airport to buy last-minute tickets, but the earliest flight was sold out. They eventually had to bring in another, bigger flight. Would not recommend getting a boat to catch a flight.

Overall thoughts: Spending only a day in Athens is perfect, especially if you’re not super into Greek Mythology/history. Personally, I would not go back to Mykonos. The three days we spent there felt like too much and were quite expensive. October is not the season to go to Mykonos, but the summer is (from what I’ve heard) and has a ton of party clubs.
